SPOT Inc is a subsidiary of Globalstar Inc, the Low Earth Orbit satellite network, hence they are in the perfect position to make use of the Globalstar 32-strong constellation for their tracking devices. SPOT uses the GPS satellite system to determine a user’s location and the SPOT network to transmit that location and the user’s status  to the emergency services. Launched in 2007, the SPOT device has now helped rescue over 2000 adventurers from life-threatening situations.
